Over the past 8 years, I have been quite excited by many products that I have been given the opportunity to review, play with and demonstrate. The one thing that has always been ticking over in the back of my mind however is the fact that here in Australia we do not really produce any of these products ourselves… Until now!
Grey Innovation are a Melbourne based company run by a young group of designers and electronics wizards that have created a BPM (Beats Per Minuite) counter that is not only of world class standard electronically, but also sleek, sturdy and simple to use.
The unit plugs in to your headphones and then links straight into your mixer. What ever you are listening to at the time on your headphones will appear on the screen of the BPM104. The unit has a bpm range of 80-199 and is accurate to one tenth of a BPM. The unit normally takes just a few second to pick up the beat and then you are off!
One really effective way that I found to use the unit is to switch between the two tracks playing to ensure your beats are matched and then put them both on and if the unit does not move around then your beats are most likely not only matched but right on top of eachother and ready to be played.
When you purchase a Grey BPM unit, it comes with a complete range of accessories to ensure you are instantly setup and ready to mix those beats! The table below list the accessories included in all BPM.104 packs. BPM.104 Accessories
1 x BPM.104 1 x Protective Slipcase 1 x Input Cable (1.2m, 6.3mm - 3.5mm Headphone Jack) 1 x Power Supply (240V or 110V AC Approved Adapter) 1 x Headphone Splitter
At just under $200 this is an awesome unit and companion for all DJ's and it is no wonder stores across Australia and world class DJ's such as Madison Avenue's Andy Van love using it.
