.: The Electrix EQ Killer

contributed by: Andre Cato
Manufacturer: Electrix

I have been exploring the uses for the EQ killer over the past few weeks and I have found this to be much more than simply an EQ Killer!

This tool allows you to have not only full control over levels of the 3 band EQ but also allows a crossover filter like effect between firstly the Low and Mid range and also the Mid to High range. Awesome, awesome awesome.

The way you connect the EQ Killer is simple. Firstly you plug up to 2 lines into the EQ Killer input via RCA (either Turntables, CD players or studio gear) and then run an RCA from the EQ Killer output into the relevant line/phono of the mixer! Bang then you have full control over these 2 instruments (cd/turntable/studio gear).

Once its all going the fun begins as you can completely re-mix any tune in your collection! You can slowly cut out the base over an 8 bar progression and then bang; release the momentary button to kick back in the base line and drums. The tool also makes seamless mixing an effort of the past, as you can now control the three ranges of EQ from either record or cd playing at any one time.

This basically means that if you are bringing in the beat of a new record, you can slowly cut out the beat and base line of the record already playing. Then, introduce your new theme without any nasty sounds or clashing of different styles of drums that can phase each other out!

The rack-mounted tool is much bigger than I ever expected from the pictures I have seen. The electrix gear is all built in a massive rack mounted system that makes playing a dream. The knobs on all of the effects are massive, and all the lights and flashing indicators make it simple to change effects quickly in a dark environment such as a club or Shed party.

This kind of gear is the way of the future for DJ's in my opinion, I love the look of these units and the amount of varying effects accessible to a dj at the push of a button or turn of a knob is amazing. DJ's now have the capacity to become the electronic musicians of the 21st Century…

That's where I'm headed anyway, how about u?
