.: Ecler - Hak320

contributed by: Andre Cato
Manufacturer: Ecler

This battle mixer has been created with the trick DJ in mind. The new Ecler Hak 320 is not only the new sponsored mixer of the DMC World DJ comp, but is praised by young scratchers across the globe. I think that even from my perspective as a house dj that this mixer has major benefits over conventional mixers. This is mainly due to the reverse switches. These, I have never seen before but basically they reverse all functions in sections across the mixer.

Everything Backwards!
You can run the sliders, eq, crossfader and input all backwards. This means simple sound changes. By using the reverse switches you can setup different eq’s on either channel and switch inbetween for quick cutoff effects.

Sliders, switches and knobs
The sliders are solid and free flowing allowing for quick adjustment and crossing between input selection and the EQ knobs will kill either the low, mid or high up to 25-30db and boost them up 10db.
There are more switches and knobs on this mixer than needed but it all adds to how you express yourself with your digital musical instrument.

A mixer that uses two sides?
Any normal DJ mixer uses only the top of the mixer for all the switches and knobs and rarely do companies even put a headphone jack on the front panel. This is mainly due to racking difficulties. The Hak 320 is not designed for this it is designed to sit on a table surface in-between two decks!
The front panel of the mixer has 3series of knobs and switches that reverse the direction of the faders for input one, two and the cross-fader. There is also a knob to change the mix parameter, ie whether you want the fader to mix slowly or really quick.

Who is this mixer for?
The Ecler Hak is a mixer for trick or ‘battle’ dj’s. In essence this mixer has been created and designed to not only cover all the needs of a trick dj such as smooth sliders and solid design, but to add an insane amount of movement and animation into the production of your sets.

How Much and where can I buy?
The Ecler Hak 320 costs $1489. When trying to compare this in price and value for money there was really nothing to gauge it by. The Technics battle mixer costs around $900 but looks like a toy next to the Hak. Not only have Wet Musiks Simon Digby and Will e Tell fully endorsed it but the DMC World DJ comp is now using the Hak in most countries.

It is available right now at DMC records in Commercial Rd, Prahran. For information on how to buy the Ecler Hak320 or any Ecler DJ products in your own state email Archie Kamakaris archie@discoworld.com.au

Hak Specs….

Cut switches
The C&K brand CUT Switches are multidirectional, offering 8 adjustments accessible by removing the front panel.

Monitoring system
For pre-fader listening, a MONITOR-MIX crossfader is active when the Pgm/Pfl switch selector is in PFL position; then direct crossfading between PFL input 1 and PFL input 2 is possible. On PGM position the mixer can be fully performed through Headphones.

Effect Send Switches
The switches allows the Dj to send the PGM1 or/and PGM2 post fader stereo signal to effect external devices through the EFF output. The already processed signal is returned to the main bus through the MIX input.

Balance
One Balance short slider per channel allows the Dj to execute "Stereo-Pan-Scratches" in a fast and easy fading manipulation.

3 band EQ
The HAK 320 features a High/Mid/Low Band EQ that allows the Dj to boost tones up to +10 dB and cut them down to –25/-30 dB!

Microphone Channel
A balanced MIC input through a combined XLR/jack input connector Level, Bass &Treble controls in front panel. GAIN adjust and INSERT jack 1/4" connection for external effects only in MIC input, in back panel. The INSERT connection could be used also as LINE input.

Master Out 1 & 2 and REC output
Two completely independent high-powered main program outputs. OUT 1, controlled through Master 1 , is electronically balanced and with XLR3 connectors. OUT 2, controlled through Master 2 , is non-balanced and with RCA-cinch connectors for monitoring or session output, and finally a recording REC output with RCA.

Session
The HAK 320 features a SESSION Input that allows the DJ to organize a Mixing Session with othersin a daisy chain formation. The SESSION potentiometer allows adjusting the level of the foregoing DJ connected to the HAK 320.

High power monitoring
The powerful headphone amplifier guaranties enough spare power even in the noisiest environments or working with only one headphone.
