Finally a compilation of club music that makes you feel like you are in the club! Club Pumpin is an awesome new double cd mixed by local dj's Jason D'Costa and Tristan Mason. Not only does the double cd contain great tunes and great mixing, but the live production throughout the cd is something that has been really missing in recent dj mixed compilations. Using just the effects available on a djm500 these 2 have brought out the best in showcasing the best new music but also how a club dj constructs his set. This is one cd that definitely makes you want to get up and dance till you can dance no more…12am and Groove Nation are giving you the chance to win one of 10 signed copies of Club Pumpin.
Where did the CLUBPUMPIN idea come from?
The idea for the cd came from a track called PUMPIN by NOVY VS. ENIAC, which incidently ended up on Jason's cd. This track is a favourite of ours and the idea of a LIVE MIXED album was born.
So, is that the cd's concept?
Yes, the double cd, was mixed in an afternoon and was not sweated over in a studio for months. We wanted to release a live mixing of current tracks we thought were pretty special. You get to hear the mixing effects and the eq's as if you were standing in a club. Listening to D'Costa push the record forward to put it on beat really makes you feel like your there!
Music trends are changing in Melbourne so quickly - is it getting harder to select tracks or is the pressure on the mixing?
We love mixing! We did this album because we love what we do - it takes balls to stand behind something you love. The album concept took a few months to develop. The artists featured are from all over the world and it's this international flavour which is another feature of this dynamic album.
How did you find working with each other? Did you feel your styles complimented each other?
Jason and I have been good friends and we found we work well together, working in alot of the same parties and clubs. Monkey, Viper Room (Saturdays), Dome, Shine, Detention Day Club and other bits and pieces around Melbourne is what we are currently up to.
How long did it take to mix up and what was your favourite mix on the album?
An afternoon - we got the go ahead a few month back on all the tracks we wanted and we sat down and went to work. Track 8 Pumpin mixes in from Melt - Be Liquid. This is a tasty mix.
Who is the next project with, and when is it out?
We shall be working together on this concept of the live mixing with another four albums in the pipeline over the coming seasons. Hopefully we'll take it international next year.
Tour plans.......
We tour over summer with this album and go pretty much all over Australia and New Zealand. We are also heading INSANITY PLANET @ the Royal Exhibition Buildings on the 14th of Jan.
I rang Jason D'Costa to set up this interview and found him in Myers, Melbourne Central.....so, ...what did you buy in Myers on the afternoon of the 15th November? fans want to know!
