.: Soul of Man - DJ Biography
Soul of Man are currently in the studio finishing off the last of four new tracks that see the continued development of the house-breaking sound the pair have pioneered.

The Drum is a storming percussive latinbreak number "one of the best progressive tribal breaks tracks I've ever heard" (Steve Lawler), Overdrive oozes oomph, Acid Punch is a whooshy electro frenzy, and the fourth ... well it aint finished yet is it?
The Drum has already been licensed to Y4K by Tayo and Plump DJs Fabric compilation, while Acid Punch has been snapped up by Hyper for his upcoming Bedrock Breaks album.

What is the Soul of Man? They are mercurial mekon Justin Rushmore and creative catalyst Jem Panufnik, heads of the worlds number one breakbeat label Finger Lickin'. In 1988 they discovered a new funky sound that inspired Finger Lickin' and has hugely influenced the course of all styles of breakbeat.
Under the Soul of Man guise they have been responsible for five outstanding releases on the label: 'Love & Hate' (Championed by Adam Freeland), 'Between the Eyes' (loved by Sir Fat Boy et al.), their third release OEThe Serendipity E.P, the massive OEKilla Brew¹ and fithy house break crossover OEDirty Waltzer. They have also recorded tracks for Bristol's Blow Pop label entitled OEHotdoggin' and OERock Me Again under the pseudonym of OESolomon Funk for Freddy Fresh's Howlin' label. This gained massive support from Mary Anne Hobbs on Radio One. They produced a 30 minute Finger Lickin OESummer Daze Glastonbury Festival mix which was featured on the front cover of The Guardian Guide (300,000 copies).

As a production outfit the Soul of Man have done an incredible 20 remixes. For artists including James Taylor Quartet, Fluke, Jacknife Lee and label mates Dreadzone. Together they mixed and released the mighty successful breakbeat compilation, "Breakthru Vol.1" as well as mixing and compiling the "It's A Finger Lickin' Thang Vols.1 and 2. Whilst Justin oversees the daily running of the label, Jem is responsible for all the label's distinctive artwork, keeping it all truly in house. At the weekends they're out spinning the platters that matter, from Poland to Holland, from Spain to the U.S, plus of course DJing gigs up and down the UK. Their recent tours of Australia have won them massive support from the Antipodeans. Having returned from a third visit to Australia over the festive period they have now confirmed an annual residency for New Year downunder!

2001 saw the boys touring the UK to support the release of their second "It's a Finger Lickin' Thang" compilation. They are currently working on remixes for The Dub Pistols, Doug Lazy (Let It Roll) and a remix for Krafty¹s Against The Grain label. Soul of Man will release their much awaited debut artist album early next year, and the project will take on a multimedia angle so expect more than just music to listen to. The boys have decided to develop the Soul of Man concept even further. So whatever happens keep your eye out for DJ dates and don't miss the two in action; dub plate pressure and party rockin' tunes is the way they like it!
