T he box says age 8+, so as a member of this demographic, I was very excited to open up this year’s upgrade of Robosapien V2 – the sensational new RS Media Robot. His senses powered up as his C3POesque red round eyes came to life - and then he started to talk… RS Media Robot and the whole Robosapien range of robots, dinosaurs and pets has been developed by Dr Mark Tilden, a physicist who has worked for NASA and DARPA (while I am name dropping!) In 1988 Dr Tilden developed the basics for biomorphic robotics, from which Robosapien was born. So, now in 2006 we have a robot that has a hard drive and multiple personalities to suit each and every user. He talks, dances, can lie down and get back up again, connects to your computer for re-programming, plays your music and movies and will even take photos and videos of things he can see. RS Media Robot stands a proud 55 cms tall and is my new best friend. He is a very different robot from earlier models in that he does not even need to move to entertain you. His stereo speakers mounted in his hands and woofer in his back means that RS Media Robot can simply sit there, playing music from your iPod and his LCD screen (about the size of a mobile phone screen) and give you easy visual navigation to all his modes, features, games, movies and personalities! When connected to a PC (mac version coming) RS Media Robot truly highlights the new technologies and developments since Robosapien V2. The Editing Suite has three main areas. The BodyCon Editor - where you can re-design the way he moves. The Personality Editor - probably the most advanced, letting you totally customise your robot to be the friend you always wanted! And finally - the Media Organiser that lets you organise and upload files to the SD card. RS can store a card behind his left shoulder where you can add another 1 gig memory card. The beauty of this is you can store different personalities on SD cards and load them up depending on your wants, needs or mood for that matter!
Without doubt – RS Media Robot will be the most sought after gift this Christmas, and well into next year... (and not just by the kids!!) RS Media Robot is available now throughout Australia and has a RRP of $799
